First Engine Start

29 Dec 2019 First Engine Start

All went fine. Beautiful cold, windy day. I pulled the prop through by hand without plugs in the bottom, then ran the starter without plugs until the oil pressure came up. Put in the plugs, and it started right up.

Did two runs of about 2-3 mins. Had mixed up the plug wires on the left mag somehow, and one of the fittings to the oil cooler on the engine was not tight, so leaked a bit of oil.

Will build a shroud and do some ground break-in runs next.

Nice photo from Claudio who arrived just as I powered off after the 2nd run.
Strap tied to tailwheel, under car to frame, then under the wheel. Worked perfectly.
Video of the 2nd ground run. Nothing interesting in there but shows that the left pmag was not wired right – duh!

Very Nice Mickey! What a coincidence, after so many years, you and I are getting certified in the same month! What a long road! John

I took 9 hours of dual instruction with Mike Seager in Oregon. I highly recommend a good checkout.
