Action Camera mount on left wing

04 Oct 2021 Action Camera mount on left wing

20211003: I installed a small mount on the left wing for an “action camera” or “gopro” clone. I bought the mount from ebay or amazon – can’t recall which – and it came from a company called Protastic.co.uk. They call this a skateboard mount. Amazingly the distance between the two screw holes on the mount was identical to the two holes that are at the end of the wing, so no new holes were needed.

I have a bit of red silicone rubber between the wing and the mount. Same material I used for my baffles. Thankfully my #6 stainless steel torx screws were long enough. The camera came with a screw and one end of the mount is threaded, but it was not strong enough. I installed an AN3 bolt and lock nut so I could really clamp down on the other part of the mount.

I considered running some power out here, but will probably not do that – I will just run on the camera’s battery power alone. The camera I have in the cockpit runs on ship’s power. I have a remote control for the camera, but it’s not really clear from the cockpit if the camera is running. I’ll need to play with it to see if it works consistently, or if I need to start recording on the ground, and accept the limited battery life.
