Cooling system modification

EnginesThe way the cooling system is set up from the factory, there is a hose coming from the top of the engine to the expansion tank and then down to the water pump at the bottom of the engine. There is a similar layout for the heater. I've decided to simplify the plumbing by connecting the heater to the expansion tank. I checked this out with the factory for the O.K. Here is a diagram:

Some possible problems with this layout are:

  • Will there be enough coolant flow to keep the radiator hot?
  • Will this work in a zero pressure environment, or will the expansion tank tend to overflow?

For the connection to the expansion tank and from the heater, I used the hoses that were plumbed for the heater. They are 1/2" I.D. hoses.

Here is an image showing the overall design of the cooling system.
