Coolant Expansion Tank location

On my 8 with the intercooler, there is not a lot of room to have the coolant expansion tank sitting up very high. I had a custom tank built, but it really didn't solve the problem.

I'm curious if using the expansion tank and the overflow tank together would allow me more flexibility in mounting. I'd like to be able to mount the expansion tank lower, basically with the top of the expansion tank at the same level as the top of the cooling system on the engine.
