My fuel pumps came with what look like brass nuts and a split lock washer. I've read that these split lock washers are not recommended in an aviation application. I would like to replace these with a standard flat washer and a nyloc nut. Does this seem like a good idea?

Ever seen a lug work lose on a starter motor, solenoid, dynamo battery or anything on a car? On top of that the wires to the named items and the main relay on my Gardan GY80 are all attached with a nut and a split lock washer, already for 40 years and 2200 hours without problems. On the other hand, NEVER use nylstops in warm and hot environments like in an engine compartment. The nylon will weaken, the nut will work lose. In aircraft parts for that you use: AN363 or MS21042 stop nuts. Split lock washers are also available in aircraft quality, MS35338
